MCMap Live for 1.7.4: Minecraft mapping!

February 27, 2014

I got the itch to play Minecraft again recently… and this time I’ve convinced the girlfriend to play along. It’s much more fun exploring with two people.

But, the server I’m running is really just a big flat open place. Sure, there’s plenty to explore but I really like the crazy maps where the geology is just crazy.

Also, I wanted to make a map of what we’ve explored so far. I did that with Tectonicus without much issue.

But then I wanted to see where ore was. I really never got into redstone or really mining last time I played so I looked around for a mapping tool that would let me see ore’s. MCMap Live looked like the best one, but it hasn’t officially been updated in a while.

I did find some directions to get it to work and after a bit of Homebrew nonsense, I was able to throw together a completed, working zip of the MCMap Live tool!

So here it is: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38455443/MCMap%20Live%20for%201.7.4.zip

Once I got it running and figured out how it works, I realized that the server had basically dropped us on top of a bunch of mine shafts and a dungeon! There are 2 mob spawners within 3 chunks of each other! One is directly below our house!

So I’m glad we get to go explore that now… And hopefully this zip will help someone out.

Our beds are the brighter red. We are at about 64 altitude. The other red blob is the dungeon. It’s down at 49 altitude or so. Close enough!:

The same general area with no block finding turned on.:

And here’s the cave view from Tectonicus…:
